FIAAA is in close contact with the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources on the matter of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Imports Branch has not received any information from the Biosecurity Animal Division that would lead to a change in import conditions for animal feeds, other than for pig’s ears for pet food use. FIAAA has been informed that so far, the department has taken action on pet food permits that are affected by the outbreak in Belgium; the situation in China, a country already affected by foot and mouth disease, is managed with current import conditions.

At this stage the department has not changed import conditions for stock feed additives (e.g. fermentation derived amino acids, vitamins) from ASF affected countries or the broader European trading block although this is a possible option in future if the disease continues to spread.

The department has committed to communicating any changes to permits as soon as they are planned.

Members are asked to ensure review of their biosecurity practices.
